Turkey & Pulled Pork Chili
Ground turkey and smoked pulled pork with black beans and tomatoes, simmered low and slow in one pot.
- Soup & chili
- Serves 4 to 5
- Simmer about 4 hr
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 white onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 lb smoked pulled pork, already cooked
- 2 cans black beans, drained
- 2 cans diced tomatoes, not drained
- 2 packets taco seasoning
- Shredded pepper jack or cheddar, and sour cream, for serving
Steps
Heat the oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until soft.
Add the turkey and brown it, breaking it up as it cooks. Don't drain it; turkey is lean, and the fat adds flavor.
Add the pulled pork, black beans, tomatoes with their juice, and taco seasoning. Stir.
Simmer on low for about 4 hours.
Serve topped with cheese and sour cream.
Cook's Notes
- This is a good use for leftover pulled pork. Freeze a pound from your last cook and you're halfway there.
- Gus uses a large Le Creuset Dutch oven, so everything happens in one pot.
- Any cheese works. Pepper jack or cheddar are the usual picks.
